Our miniature gardens are the perfect, enchanting “one-of –a kind” gift for friends, family and business associates. While we keep a small handful of gardens in stock the majority are made to order and like snowflakes – no two gardens are exactly the same. We can work with you on customizing the design or let us surprise you!

Our gardens come in a variety of sizes and are all personally designed by renowned bonsai artist, C. Lee Ishi. He hand selects all the various plants, wood and stones found in Thumbelina Miniature Gardens. We use “River Rock” and driftwood pieces collected from local California beaches. We also use Canadian Granite and sparkling Mica stones from the California hills. Some of our more fanciful gardens even have Rose Quartz & Amethyst Crystals.

Containers
Our gardens come in a variety of containers-
un-glazed pots, fine ceramics, and elegant boxes hand-crafted from a variety of exotic woods.
Some of our unique containers are made from vintage luggage pieces , hand painted gourds and antique metal boxes.

Garden Design
All our Thumbelina Gardens are furnished with pieces designed to especially complement
C. Lee Ishi’s delicate “Saikei” designs. We can customize the accessories tailoring them to the recipient, or let us surprise you! We are always searching for unique one-of a-kind accessories for our gardens. Many of our accessories are hand-crafted by artist D. L. Bruin, exclusively for Thumbelina Gardens. A number of the accessories you may see on our website are limited edition treasures we have stumbled across– once we have expended our supply they are gone!

Garden care
Our gardens are very easy to care for. Bonsai artist C. Lee Ishi field tests all the plants we use in his nursery and eliminates “fussy” plants from the mix. Our gardens just need watering and light although excessive heat is not good for them. As they continue to mature they require light pruning with a pair of scissors to maintain their shape. All our gardens come with easy to follow basic care instructions.

Our Thumbelina Miniature Gardens start as low as $80. Prices are determined by the size of garden, the type of container and the choice of garden furnishings.

Thumbelina Gardens is located in Los Angeles, California. You can find our gardens at several fine Los Angeles area stores or visit us at select Farmer’s Markets and craft shows. Please contact us for a list of stores or a schedule. We also do limited local deliveries or you can visit our studio by appointment.
